Home of CBX...2007 Church League CHAMPS!
April 27, 2007
A big "THANKS!" to those who helped make Spring Fling Community Thing 2007 a smashing success! Special appreciation goes to Charles Payne, Philip Neaville, Sharon Pettijohn, Cindi Woods, Gwen Dingler, and Jack Love! And much gratitude also to Dean Kirby for the great photos from Sunday featured in this edition of CCCN&N. (NOTE: Next week, we'll showcase the Spring Fling photographs of Allison Peatross!)

SUNDAY Preview
This Lord's Day we'll gather at 9 and 10:45 a.m. to express our corporate love for, our common faith in, and our collective praise to our triune God. We'll pray for the Tufans in Turkey, and Dicky will lead us through Luke 14:25-35--a passage about what it really means (and costs) to follow Christ.

P.S. DID YOU HEAR THE NEWS? Beginning May 27 (and continuing through the summer) ... CCC will have only ONE SUNDAY SERVICE each week. It will be at 10:45. How great it will be to have the whole CCC family worshiping together! [FYI, the summer sermon series is shaping up to be a GREAT one...we'll take a break from Luke and look for about 12 weeks at Holy Habits: Spiritual Practices that Can Transform Our Lives.]

> So far, only 15 CCCers (with 10 kids in need of childcare) have signed up for next Friday's "An Evening with God." If you're planning to join us on May 4 (from 6-9 p.m. in the Worship Center) for another extended time of quiet prayer, we'd love to know. (Actually, we NEED to know for planning purposes.) Please RSVP either by calling the office, emailing, or declaring your intentions on Sunday's Communication Card.

> Sweets @ CCC is a new, concise, casual introduction to this local church--why we started, what we believe, how we do certain things, etc. If you've got questions, plan to join Dicky for some answers ... in the CCC library on Sunday, May 6, at 9 a.m. (NOTE: Since we can only accomodate about 12 folks in this setting, sign up ASAP on the Communication Card.)

> Also on May 6 ... there's a BAPTISM scheduled right after the second service in the CCC breezeway. If, since trusting in Christ, you've never taken this public step of identification with Christ, we encourage you to "take the plunge." (Pun totally intended.) Call the office if you have questions or to add your name to the list (251-1951).

(FYI, there's also a BABY DEDICATION set for Father's Day, June 17. Interested parents are being asked this year to attend a special Parent Preparation Class on Sunday, May 6 at 10:45). Sign up Sunday--where else?--on your trusty Communication Card.

> How People Grow is the critically-acclaimed, best-selling book by Drs. Henry Cloud and John Townsend. And get this...on May 20, the Bob Milton/Roy Schubert small group (meeting Sundays at CCC at 3 p.m.) will begin a study/discussion of this excellent material. Call the office if you'd like to participate!

> Dessert Fest Pix ... Hoping to capture one of those great moments from our recent 70s Music Extravaganza? You can by purchasing photgraphs of the event for only $1 each--with all proceeds going to support CCC missions. NOTE: After Sunday, May 6, the price per pic will jump to a very gasoline-like $3!

> And speaking of Dessert Fest ... didja catch Mitch "BeeGee" Spillers on Youtube? You can by pasting this URL into your web browser:

> Wednesday, May 9, is the FINAL NIGHT of M&Ms for the 2006-07 school year (and all the leaders shouted, "Hallelujah!"). As we did last May, we'll be closing out the year with a "songfest" at Princeton Place Nursing Home (across from Northern Louisiana Medical Center--formerly Lincoln General). After singing a bit, the kids will have a picnic supper on the grounds.

Please drop off and pick up your child(ren) at Princeton Place at the usual 5:30-7 p.m. times.

> With the news that CCC is having only ONE regular worship service this summer, some have worried, "Doesn't that mean that Learning Center volunteers will MISS worship?" Au contraire! Gwen is in the process of recruiting three separate teams of teachers/workers (with each team serving just one month). And even in the month they DO work, LC Volunteers won't miss worship. How come? Because each Sunday at 9 a.m., we will hold a smaller, more informal service just for the workers. And not only that, but this abbreviated service will be followed by a scrumptiousBRUNCH!. Call Gwen to volunteer your services (251-1951) and get in on all those bagels, fresh Ruston peaches, and hot blueberry muffins, etc.... Volunteers, be watching your box for details on our upcoming LC Summer Teacher Training (set for Sunday, May 20--not May 6 as previously reported).

> TIME IS RUNNING OUT ! Hey, Johnny & Jessica Junior High, want to get in on a great week of ministry and fun? NOW is the time to bring your $150 for our Junior High trip to Mission Arlington! See JohnO or Crystal for more info.

> Senior Wednesday is May 9! (Parents, expect a longer-than-normal evening, as we love on these folks one final time.)

> It's B.Y.O.K. (i.e. "Bring your own Kleenex!") Sunday May 20 Yep, you guessed it--SENIOR SUNDAY, featuring our annual PowerPoint slide show blubberfest. Parents, if you haven't done so, we need you to provide us with 20 good pics of your grad by YESTERDAY. Git 'er done! These pictures will be scanned and returned.

ALSO ON 5/20, youth and the families of our grads will eat a boiled crawfish lunch in the breezeway for $15 per person (graduating seniors eat free).

> Join us for great discussions and communion each Thursday at 7 p.m. in Harper Lounge on the Tech campus. We call our gathering missio Dei (Latin for "mission of God").

> The big 3rd Annual Share International 5K Charity Run/Walk is in two weeks, Saturday, May 12, out at The Gospel (east on Hwy 844). All race proceeds will go to buy food (i.e., beans, rice, maize) for distribution during this year's S.T.O.R.M. trip to Kenya. Funds are needed to cover the $7000 shipping cost. > Susan Hamilton, a member of one of our CCC ladies Bible studies, is looking for a few strong arms and backs who could help her move from Arcadia into her just-purchased, in-town home (1400 Brewster) May 19 or 26 (whichever Saturday the most folks can help). She's got a few big items, but is renting a U- Haul. Volunteers can contact her at princesspossum@hotmail.com .

> The ELS Language Center at La. Tech (an intensive English program for new international students) is seeking a host family for a male student, age 23, from South Korea for the four-week session beginning May 6. He does not smoke and would prefer a non-smoking home with no children or pets. They are also seeking to place three male students from Saudi Arabia with separate host families. Those interested in knowing more should contact Geri Taylor at 254-1230.

> The CCA food pantry has a shortage of rice, dry beans, and canned milk. All contributions are greatly appreciated!

...and "Happy Anniversary!" to these couples...

    The Good Word

" 'Accept one another,' the apostle Paul says. What exactly do we do when we accept someone? It is a remarkable action, difficult to define, yet unmistakable when we experience it. To accept people is to be for them. It is to recognize that it is a very good thing that these people are alive, and to long for the best for them. It does not, of course, mean to approve of everything they do. It means to continue to want what is best for their souls no matter what they do."
